Temple time! Angkor Wat, lets go! Hold up.. there are how many?

- First impressions of Siem Reap had me thinking back to Chiang Rai in Thailand, a lovely small town where anything you want is on your doorstep, locals are friendly and there is a good balance of backpackers without it being swamped by them. Cliché when I’m a backpacker, I know.

- Here I am, in Siem Reap, obviously the first stop is Angkor Wat to see one of the wonders of the world. I’m maybe going to embarrass myself here but I thought there were only a couple of temples, did you know there is an abundance? I’m talking over 50 temples!? The map I picked up had over 40 temples around Angkor Wat alone, not including the rest of the Siem Reap province!
- First up, we have the main temple Angkor Wat, what a mighty, spectacular, and ostentatious temple. You really have to witness it in person to appreciate such a feat.

- Ta Prohm Temple, also known as the Tomb Raider Temple.

- Bayon Temple, the temple of many faces, my favourite as I caught it at sunset, golden hues filling the foreground was simply amazing. The intricate wall inscriptions found within this temple tell various stories of dating, fighting tigers, sailing ships and much more - Too many opportunities for photos meant I wasn’t fully paying attention to the tour guide.
