Bangkok 1 - Here Hostel - 1/11 > 3/11
An 11.5hour flight from London Heathrow had me arriving in Bangkok with minimal sleep, jet lag and no dinner but still agreeing to go out for “just one drink” on Khaosan road.
-Partied, ate a scorpion, visited temples, had Pad Thai for breakfast.
-Met some great people from around the world which was great having just arrived.
- 18/05/23, I’ve been traveling for 7 months now, I planned to travel for a year but deep inside I never thought I’d make it to this point. Looking back I remember my worries about only knowing the English language, traveling solo, wanting to chew my fingernails off on the airplane as I was so nervous having packed up my life in Scotland, would I ever meet people on the same journey as me? make friends etc. Have I packed everything I need, will I get homesick? The 11-hour flight from London to Bangkok felt like 3 as I was so nervous yet excited.
I can report It’s been a total joy so far, so many memories made which I know I repeat endlessly throughout this blog, but I feel I chose to do this at the right time in life. Being able to travel and at the age to fully appreciate it, not just party and drink away my funds. Coming here and doing what I’ve done has made me realise the world isn’t as big as it seems, and for future travels, a simple backpack with some essentials is all I need - usually I pack the kitchen sink. I do feel I have conquered something on this trip, I’ve gained, and albeit not part of my “continuing person development" plan which is “how many things can I add to my CV”, the life experience in itself has been… ahh I just haven’t found the word yet. How do you explain watching an amazing movie and at the end, the cinematic music plays, the subtitles come up, and you sit there thinking “wow… that was amazing”, that’s how it feels.
